Florian Hengsbach
Dr.-Ing.Dr.-Ing. Florian Hengsbach is a proven expert in the field of materials science and additive manufacturing. His focus is on computer-aided material design and experimental validation at the atomic level. After studying industrial engineering with a focus on mechanical engineering at the University of Paderborn, he earned his doctorate in 2023 for his work on the development of a hot-work steel for 3D printing. He is continuing his scientific career in the field of materials science as an academic advisor at the Chair of Materials Science in Paderborn. Since 2020, Florian has also been working as a visiting scientist at the renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he is involved in international projects on mechanistic materials development. Together with Prof. Greg Olson and Prof. Mirko Schaper, he calculated and experimentally validated the grain refinement of additively processed steels in 2019, among other things. In addition, Florian has been working at the Direct Manufacturing Research Center at the University of Paderborn since 2015 on a variety of bilateral and joint projects with leading companies in the field of additive manufacturing. Florian combines outstanding basic research with entrepreneurial action: as the founder of Addition GmbH, he has been driving the development and transfer of excellent research results to industry since 2020. His work stands for innovation, precision, and sustainable progress in mechanical engineering and the industrial application of new materials.
